Dedicated to Rawdon Brown with inscription en verso. Excellent condition with minor loss and inpainting at margins.
Provenance:
Presented as a gift to Rawdon Brown, an English scholar living in Venice . This painting hung in Palazzo Gussoni-Grimani della Vida until his death in 1883. Like Monet painting Rouen at different times of day, Cooke selected Salute decades earlier for the same experimental purpose. This version, backlit with gold and amber, is among the artist's most dramatic.
